Composer – for makers who wish to develop their own musical signature. Within each profile, you can specialise in Classical, Jazz, Pop, Global Musics, or a combination thereof. Whatever you choose: you build a versatile and sustainable career in the national and international music world. The Master Music consists of four components that together support your artistic growth: Main subject Your main subject forms the heart of the master's programme. You receive intensive individual lessons and ensemble training from professionals with extensive field experience. In the first year, you conclude with a performance or presentation of your work. In the second year, you demonstrate in a public performance or presentation how you have grown as a musician, composer or conductor. Artistic Research Artistic Research is an essential part of being an artist. The Master Music places practice-based artistic research at its core. The focus of the research lies on artistic and professional growth, which will strengthen your own practice as a musician, conductor or composer. Conducting artistic research not only enhances your musical knowledge and skills, but also your artistic vision and professional awareness. More information about Artistic Research Ensembles Making music and creating together is an important part of the Master Music programme. You become part of an ensemble that suits your musical direction – from symphony orchestra to jazz combo, from tango orchestra to chamber ensemble. If you are already working in a (professional) ensemble, you can include that in the portfolio with which you graduate. Free space The Master Music programme gives you room to shape your studies in a personal way. You choose lessons, projects and collaborations that align with your learning goals, both within and outside Codarts. For example, you could: record an album, organise a concert tour, participate in (interdisciplinary) projects, or contribute to productions within Codarts. Add new enrolment via Studielink Your enrolment for this joint degree Master Choreography led by Fontys and Codarts begins at www.studielink.nl . If you officially live in the Netherlands, you need a DigiD to login. If you don’t have a DigiD because you have a foreign address, you create your own account in Studielink (if you don't already have one). • Once logged in to Studielink, complete or make sure your personal details are entered correctly (i.e. capital letters where required, according to your passport/ID card), and check or add your previous education. Always confirm your details. • Choose the study programme you wish to apply for (or select the option "Add new enrolment application" in your dashboard). You can enter one or more search queries and select Fontys University of Applied Sciences to select your programme. Wicked Weekend The Wicked Weekend takes place online on the 20th and 21st of March 2026 (Save the date!.) I t consists of a one-day workshop built around the investigation of a wicked problem and is designed to provide a taster of the approach and philosophy behind the course in a co-creative setting. On the second day, interviews are held with individual students. This weekend will give us the opportunity to start discussions with prospective students who would be a good match for the programme. Requirements Master Choreography Candidates that will be considered for this masters should meet the following criteria: an academic background that is equivalent to an arts college or university degree, at least 5 years professional experience and evidence of creative output or a dance/circus education from an internationally recognized academy, at least 5 years professional experience and evidence of creative output at a professional level n.b. in some cases dance education and choreographic experience may be judged using different criteria in order to allow for a broad spectrum of students. Equivalency will be determined by the institutions of Codarts and Fontys once the applicant has been short listed. The programme is part of an international community of musicians and is strongly connected to professional music practice. The programme is aimed at musicians, composers and conductors who have already completed a bachelor's degree and wish to deepen their artistic and professional practice. The programme shapes you into an independent professional, ready to operate in an international field that is constantly evolving. The curriculum is built around individual guidance and artistic autonomy. You work with teachers who are active as musicians, makers and researchers. Musical practice, artistic research and entrepreneurship are central to the curriculum. The programme offers considerable room for personal input. In consultation with your teachers, you design your own programme. You choose lessons, projects and collaborations that align with your learning goals, both within Codarts and beyond. The teachers are professionals with an active practice in national and international contexts. They bring their experience and knowledge into the classroom and guide students in their work as independent musicians. Musical Diversity is a distinctive and recognised characteristic of the Master Music. Master Choreography About Study programme Admission Team Contact More Open submenu Close submenu This part-time 2 year innovative Joint Degree Master Choreography is run by Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam and Fontys Academy of the Arts in Tilburg. The programme is designed to support experienced movement makers/choreographers from a variety of fields while they carry out research into questions initiating from their current practice. The course occurs within a learning environment that exposes students to a broad range of approaches, movement disciplines and creative domains while supporting them in retaining connections with their own working field. Students are co-creators of the course and will be responsible for shaping specific content and/or assignments as well as creating a productive learning cohort with their peers. The course is carried out in 2 week intensives that take place 3 times a year (late August to early September/ late January to early February/ April or May) at either the campus of Codarts in Rotterdam or Fontys in Tilburg, both of which have full dance, theoretical and circus facilities. Unfortunately the Dutch government does not currently issue visas/residency permits for part-time studies, such as ours, to people from outside the EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Suriname or Switzerland. If you are not in possession of a residency permit from one of these countries we regret to inform you that it will not be possible to join our master programme under the current rules.
