Incoming grants and loans

Preparing to cover your study and maintenance in the Netherlands requires good ‘financial management’.

Costs of living in the Netherland

We estimate that you will need € 800 to € 1.100 per month. This is an estimate and depending on your lifestyle or unforeseen costs you may need more.

More information about the costs of living in the Netherlands and related subjects can be found here. Please keep in mind that there are almost no full scholarships available in the Netherlands. If you do not have enough funds to cover your tuition fees and maintenance, we advise you to try to find funding from your home country. Websites like www.nuffic.nl and www.studyinnl.org/finances can be useful in this matter.

Grants / scholarships

International students looking for financial aid can use the search engine provided by the website of Study in Holland. This will give you a complete overview of all scholarships available for studying in Holland.

NL Scholarship

The NL Scholarship is financed by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and Dutch research universities and universities of applied sciences. The scholarship is meant for international students from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who want to do their bachelor’s or master’s in Holland. The ‘NL Scholarships’ is only available for a limited amount of students who according to Codarts have an exceptional talent.

Codarts Talent Grant

For the academic year 2024-2025 Codarts offers 3 Codarts Talent Grants of € 5000 per year for the entire study period to 3 non EU students. Students can not apply for this scholarship themselves but have to be nominated for it by the head of their department after their audition. This nomination together with the results of the audition will be crucial for the selection committee.

Study finance

At some point, most students in the Netherlands encounter the Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs, commonly known as DUO. This organisation is mostly known for providing students with student finance and the student travel product. Depending on residency status, course registration and age, international students can also get funding from DUO. You can find all information about the requirements and the amounts on DUO’s website for international students: https://duo.nl/particulier/international-student/

Download the brochure ‘Student finance for international students in university or higher professional education‘ (Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs).
