teacher and student. J. Haydn (1732-1809) was already a famous composer when he became the teacher of L. van Beethoven (1770-1827). Besides serving as a mirror for their personalities and stormy reaction [...] impassioned Coriolan Overture (1807) and Haydn's powerful Symphony No. 100 "Military" (1745) is also a nod to their mutual admiration: Haydn's for his student's music and Beethoven's for his teacher.
