Ed Wubbe patron of HMD dance department

Ed Wubbe, since more than 25 years the artistic director of the renowned dance company Scapino Ballet Rotterdam and one of the most versatile choreographers in the Netherlands, is now patron of the dance department at the Havo/vwo voor Muziek en Dans (HMD) highschool in Rotterdam. The HMD is a preparatory course of Codarts. Ed Wubbe. Photo Justin Bekker. In his role as patron, Ed Wubbe wants to contribute to the development of young dance talents. Some 100 talented boys and girls from all over the Netherlands attend the dance department at HMD, where a thorough dance training prepares them for a professional career in dance and especially for auditioning for the HBO dance study programme at Codarts. Ed Wubbe will be attending classes and performances of dance pupils, including those of the final classes (5 HAVO and 6 VWO). With their upcoming auditions in mind, he will discuss with them their technique, posture, and presentation. In addition, he will make one of his choreographies (or a part thereof) available to HMD for students every year. Students will rehearse these pieces, together with répétiteurs of Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, for the traditional final examination dance performances of the school. Each year, a number of very talented dance students of HMD will be given the opportunity to take classes and attend rehearsals at Scapino Ballet Rotterdam through the Ed Wubbe Encouragement Award. Finally, Ed Wubbe will on occasion act as ambassador of the dance department of HMD. DAMU school The HMD, housed in Codarts’ main building in the centre of Rotterdam, also has some 100 music students, in addition to the dance students already mentioned. All students take their dance and music classes – given by teachers of Codarts – as part of the regular school schedule. Because HMD is a DAMU school, the students are …
