Independent and broadly employable artists, who are able to shape their own working environment and who are capable of working interdisciplinary, have a reflective and inquisitive attitude and are active in multiple professional contexts. During your study you will follow circus specialization classes in small groups and group classes in the following subjects: Various basic circus techniques (floor acrobatics, partner acrobatics, balancing skills, spatial awareness and object manipulation) Artistic creative skills: dance, theatre training, music and improvisation/composition Physical preparation: ballet training, core training, flexibility, resistance training and specific preparation for the circus specialization Research skills: circus history, art orientation and theoretical graduation project (thesis) Health and wellbeing: anatomy, nutrition, injury prevention and physical fitness, performance preparation Entrepreneurial skills Safety and rigging and workshops in lighting and sound technique and costume Guided by an artistic coach you create and present every year personal artistic work. During these creating processes you learn how to combine the knowledge from the artistic creative classes with your specialization. In each year you also work in a group creation directed by a choreographer, a theatre- or circus director. Already during your studies we bring you in contact with the professional network like festivals, presenters, circus artists and professional platforms such as FEDEC. Master Choreography About Study programme Admission Team Contact More Open submenu Close submenu This part-time 2 year innovative Joint Degree Master Choreography is run by Codarts University of the Arts in Rotterdam and Fontys Academy of the Arts in Tilburg. The programme is designed to support experienced movement makers/choreographers from a variety of fields while they carry out research into questions initiating from their current practice. The course occurs within a learning environment that exposes students to a broad range of approaches, movement disciplines and creative domains while supporting them in retaining connections with their own working field. Students are co-creators of the course and will be responsible for shaping specific content and/or assignments as well as creating a productive learning cohort with their peers. The course is carried out in 2 week intensives that take place 3 times a year (late August to early September/ late January to early February/ April or May) at either the campus of Codarts in Rotterdam or Fontys in Tilburg, both of which have full dance, theoretical and circus facilities. Unfortunately the Dutch government does not currently issue visas/residency permits for part-time studies, such as ours, to people from outside the EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Suriname or Switzerland. If you are not in possession of a residency permit from one of these countries we regret to inform you that it will not be possible to join our master programme under the current rules.
