With this award, it is formally recognised that musical diversity is not only an artistic theme within the programme, but a structural and defining principle embedded throughout the curriculum.

The panel concludes that Codarts offers an integrated Master’s programme in which Classical Music, Jazz, Pop and Global Musics are brought together within a single learning environment. These strands do not operate as separate tracks, but are interconnected and collectively contribute to students’ artistic development.

According to the panel, Codarts distinguishes itself through the way this diversity is embedded in its educational model: not as an additional strand or project-based initiative, but as a guiding principle shaping the entire curriculum, intended learning outcomes and assessment practice. In particular, the position of Global Musics is highlighted as a fully embedded and conceptually strengthened component of the programme.

The international composition of the student body and the collaboration between diverse musical backgrounds further enrich this environment, in which students are encouraged to move across genres, traditions and cultural contexts, and to develop a distinctive artistic identity.

The panel concludes that the Special Feature Musical Diversity is fundamentally embedded in the identity of the programme and clearly visible in its educational practice, student work and the professional positioning of graduates.

At the same time, the report identifies areas for further development, particularly in strengthening the articulation of the relationship between musical diversity and wider societal and urban contexts. Codarts has indicated its intention to further develop this dimension in the coming period.

With this recognition, Codarts reinforces its position within Dutch and international higher music education as a conservatoire where diverse musical traditions do not simply coexist, but actively interact and inform one another.
