Step 4 – Entrance Exam
During the entrance exam, your knowledge, skills, creativity, and artistic potential will be evaluated through three components.
Practical Audition
In the practical part, we assess your technique, creativity, stylistic understanding, and artistic expression on your main instrument or voice. We value your ability to interpret repertoire within its cultural context and to express your own musical voice.
For subject-specific repertoire and requirements, please see Admission Requirements at the bottom of this page.
Candidates residing in the Netherlands audition live at Codarts in Rotterdam. Candidates living abroad may choose between a live or online audition. This choice must be made in MyApplication and cannot be changed later.
Theory Test
The online written and oral theory test evaluates your understanding of musical concepts and your ability to apply them to your own practice.
The Global Musics test respects multiple musical systems and traditions. Depending on your background, you may encounter questions related to Western notation, modal structures, rhythmic cycles, or oral traditions.
Interview
All candidates who pass the practical audition will be invited for the interview. This is an opportunity to discuss your artistic journey, motivation, and future goals.
Topics may include:
Your musical background and influences
Your learning approach and collaboration with others
Your interest in intercultural and interdisciplinary work
Your aspirations as an artist and professional
We value honesty, reflection, and openness — not perfect English or formal presentation.
