Admission requirements violin - bachelor
Entrance exam repertoire:
1) Scales (only pre-selection):
- one major OR minor single note scale over 3 or 4 octaves (1 octave to a bow)
- arpeggios over 3 octaves (9 notes to a bow)
- double stops (thirds, sixths and octaves) over at least one octave (2 or 4 to a bow)
2) One etude or caprice (e.g. Kreutzer after #20, Rode op. 22, Dont op. 35, Campagnoli op. 12 or another study of similar or higher level of difficulty)
3) One movement of a Bach Partita or Sonata for violin solo
4) First movement with cadenza of a Mozart or Haydn violin concerto OR the first movement of a classical or late-classical sonata (e.g. Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Weber, Schubert)
5) First movement with cadenza (if applicable) of a violin concerto (e.g. Mendelssohn e-minor, Barber, Bruch g-minor, Kabalevsky, Wieniawski d-minor, Vieuxtemps a-minor) OR a virtuoso performance piece (e.g. Sarasate - Introduction & Tarantella, Wienawski - Polonaise de Concert in D / Scherzo Tarantelle, Bartók - Rumanian Dances, De Falla - Spanish Dance or a piece of similar or higher level of difficulty)
- Your program for the entrance exam must contain at least one violin concerto
- It is mandatory to play at least one concerto by memory
- Playing more repertoire by memory is appreciated (duo sonata with piano or other instrument excepted)
- Please leave out any possible repeats
Pre-selection (video recording)
Make a video recording of your playing (min 15 minutes - max 20 minutes), including 1) Scales in its entirety in combination with movements or excerpts of each of the four other categories of the abovementioned repertoire list.
Live entrance exam
The abovementioned pieces need to be prepared in its entirety. The jury will make a selection during the live entrance exam. You do NOT have to prepare 1) Scales for the live audition.
Please bring a program with you as well as general scores of any pieces that are not considered mainstream repertoire.
