Alexandros Papadimitrakis studied oud and lavta with Yurdal Tokcan, Sokratis Sinopoulos, Christos Tsiamoulis, Haig Yazdjian. He attended several workshops on makam music by Kudsi Erguner, Omer Erdogdular, Ross Daly and on arabic oud by Taisser Elias, Nasseer Shamma, Ahmad Al Khatib.
He is a graduate of National Conservatory of Athens, University of Athens/Department of Musicology(BA), Codarts Rotterdam University for the Arts(MMus).
His research and performance experience are focused on ottoman and greek music traditions but he also adopts techniques and aesthetics coming from arabic, armenian, baroque, contemporary modal & contemporary improvised music.
Alexandros has collaborated and performed worldwide with some of the most prominent artists of various genres: Michalis Kouloumis, Kudsi Erguner, L’Achéron/François Joubert-Caillet, Sokratis Sinopoulos, Ilias Plastiras, Rebetien, Neda, Chris Jennings, Michalis Cholevas, Kemal Dinc, Ahmet Aslan, Cigdem Aslan, Willem Tanke, Robyn Shulkowsky and many others.
-Collaboration with Kudsi Erguner Ensemble (2014-15, Oude Muziek Festival, Utrecht)
-Collaboration with François Joubert-Caillet/L’Achéron (2014-today, Festival de Namur, Festival Toulouse les Orgues, Arsenal de Metz, Abbaye de Royaumont etc)
-Instructor in Labyrinth Catalunya seminars&concerts with Ross Daly, Zohar Fresco, Neyalko Nedyalkov, Omer Erdogdular etc..(2017).

What are you going to teach them?
"The oud classes consists of 1. Repertory (Ottoman classical music, Turkish/Greek/Armenian/Arabic music traditions, Contemporary modal music); 2. Technique: exercises for both right & left hand and for their coordination; 3. Ornamentation in classical ottoman & folk music, exercises on ornaments; 4. Improvisation in the context of classical makam and afore mentioned styles."
How are you going to teach them?
The classes provides the tools to the student to approach different playing styles in order to find their own voice on the instrument through: 1. Presentation and practice of various oud techniques; 2. Listening/analyzing of classical and modern recordings/performances; 3. Study of the makam system in the ottoman classical music as a common field for the musical cultures of east Mediterranean/North Africa.
