In order to be admitted to Codarts you have to take an entry examination, which consists of two parts: a theoretical and a practical part. Under the heading ‘Entry Requirements’ you will find the specific requirements for the various instruments. The content of the auditions reflects the demands that the study programme and later professional practice will make upon students. The auditions are held by a committee comprised of teachers of the department you audition for.
All auditions will take place online this year, due to the current measures in the Netherlands regarding Covid-19.
Step 1: Prepare an online portfolio (preselection)
To take part in the auditions in March 2021, you need to hand in a portfolio. Codarts will use this to make a preselection. Our student administration would like to receive one link to your portfolio (public link dropbox, google drive or website), send the link via Studielink. The portfolio consists of:
- Audio and video recordings with maximum 3 songs. Preferably played with a combo / band.
* You can upload separate links to these videos in your portfolio. Link for example to SoundCloud or YouTube.
** Please note that we do not accept CDs or DVDs, nor MP3s via email.
- Motivation letter (click here)
- Biography and musical resume
Step 2: register via Studielink (click here)
Step 3: Invitation for the audition.
The invitation to take the entry examination at Codarts depends on an assessment of your digital portfolio. If favourable, you will receive an email with the invitation and additional information from our student administration centre ASC.
Step 4: the audition
At the audition we will test your talent, knowledge, skills and development possibilities for the study programme you intend to follow. The audition consists of a music- theoretical part and a practical part. In the practical part we will test musical hearing, sense of rhythm, improvisation ability, affinity with the music of the main subject, talent development possibilities, and motivation. You will be tested on your theoretical knowledge on the same day. Click here for theory tips and links to theory tests.
Step 5: the results of the audition
On the basis of the audition, the study programme’s management will decide whether you will be admitted. You will be personally notified of their decision via email, within two weeks after the audition.
