Between 1981 and 1985, Bob followed degree programmes in Teaching Musician and Performing Musician, majoring in Drums light music (minoring in timbales). He now teaches drums at the Havo/vwo voor Muziek en Dans. At Codarts he teaches Drums as a minor (Classical Music department) and the major Rhythmic training (Jazz department).
As a drummer, Bob played with The Frog, I’ve Got The Bullets, Hans de Booy, Margriet Eshuijs, Hans Dulfer, The Barking Dogs (with Herman Brood), Barry Hay, George Kooijmans and Frank Carillo, among others. He toured internationally, also with foreign artists, and worked as a studio musician for five years (Wisseloord, Soundpush).
Aside from drums, Bob plays the piano, trombone, and bass guitar (as a hobbyist).
“I’ve played large venues and events such as Ahoy and Parkpop (over 100,000 people).”
Why do you believe students should come to Codarts?
“In my opinion, the fact that Codarts offers contemporary, proficient, and up-to-date education makes it attractive.”
What are you going to teach them?
“I want to teach students to write down and time music in a way that can be clearly interpreted. Other examples of what I do include memory training and just about anything the students run into in their own experience in the field.”
How will you do this?
“My lessons are geared towards the professional practice. I use existing music in my lessons, both for writing down and for timing. The exams are written.”
