András Czifra was born in Budapest, Hungary. He started his violin study in the same city and continued later with Arthur Grumiaux in Brussels. After this period he became student of Rostislav Dubinsky (Indiana University).
His way of playing and teaching represents both the franco-belgian and russian violin schools.
Together with his wife, the pianist Corine Touboul, he performs many concerts as the ANCOR Duo, offering almost the whole sonata-literature for violin and piano.
As a soloïst with orchestra, he is praised by his warm sound and personal touch. Since 1995 he is also active as conductor, working with chamber- and string orchestras. Besides his long-term engagement with Codarts Rotterdam he is also giving many violin and chamber music Masterclasses all over Europe.
