Master Screen Scoring
The Master Screen Scoring is part of the Master of Music. We educate composers to become a professional in making music for film (drama, documentary), video, installations, television, commercials, new media, websites, and corporate and industrial design.
What is the Master Screen Scoring?
The Master Screen Scoring provides composers with an opportunity to specialise and deepen their skills in composing in relation to audio-visual productions. Through professional coaching and by doing thorough research, students develop their personal authentic views with regard to a meaningful relationship between music and images. The focus is not on mastering or studying existing mainstream film music genres, but rather on the personal artistic development of the composition student as a maker of music related to various visual formats: film (drama, documentary), video, installations, television, commercials, new media, websites, and corporate and industrial design.
How is the study organized?
Research into and the development and production of (film) music are specifically aimed at being able to eclectically combine acoustic instruments and ensembles with electronic instruments and digital sound sources, using both virtual orchestration in the digital domain and ‘traditional’ paper scoresheets.
Students develop and research compositional, instrumentational and technical skills that enable them – with the help of state-of-the-art digital technology and both acoustic and electronic instruments – to achieve an optimal personal sound result for various visual formats. The production and postproduction of (film) music are important subjects in developing the student’s authenticity.
After the Master Screen Scoring
The Master Screen Scoring teaches students to compose with and for a variety of visual media. Students prepare themselves practically to make significant contributions to an innovative multimedia industry and acquire a realistic view of how they can find a place for themselves in this market.
Who is the master’s programme for?
The Master Screen Scoring is open to students who have already completed a Bachelor in Composition (Jazz or Classical Music), a Bachelor Film Music, or a relevant equivalent Bachelor study programme and can show that they have made a start with developing their artistic authenticity in composition.
