Codarts Flamenco Week
El Cante: the heart of flamenco. A whole week of classes by some of the greatest names in flamenco? It’s all possible at Codarts University for the Arts, Rotterdam. From 21 March to 24 March 2018 it is Codarts Flamenco Week at the World Music and Dance Centre in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Codarts Flamenco Week
Under the guidance of our artistic leader Paco Peña and the great flamenco singer Arcángel you can submerge yourself in this musical tradition from Southern Spain, for a whole week.
Join us for this adventure and get the opportunity to work with the best flamenco musicians , all around the central theme of “El Cante”. Together with other flamenco enthusiasts you will explore the boundaries of this music in a variety of workshops, by Arcángel (singing), Dani de Morón (guitar), Pablo Suárez (piano), Udo Demandt, Ruven Ruppik (percussion), and others.
‘In the year 1985, Codarts launched a wonderful adventure, a brave undertaking that wasn’t common at the time in a classical institution: a full flamenco guitar course was started. The course has now come to the 30 year landmark and at this point we want to venture into a further ambitious project that we believe represents the next natural step: You guessed it! Cante, of course! A step that will inevitably bring the aficionado face to face with the big beast, the true essence of the art. The task of leading that imposing bull, will be an artist that I consider the best qualified flamenco singer of today to take on such a project: ARCÁNGEL!’, says Paco Pen᷉a.’
In the evenings you will get to know the students and staff of the Codarts flamenco department, an international department with teachers and students from all over the world and together enjoy the good food, music and great vibe that Rotterdam is known for.
On top of that, at the end of the Codarts Flamenco Week you will have the chance to join the Big Day spectacle, a full day with dozens of showcases of all that Codarts has to offer, amongst which the acclaimed Requiem for the Earth by Paco Peña, performed by Paco himself, accompanied by Codarts students and musicians from his own professional company.
