Generally

  • Show of sufficient drive to study and enthusiasm for music and instrument



Vocals (Dhrupad and Khayal) 

  • Prepare a Raga and a Tala of your own choice to present in the following way: 
  • Scale of the raga and theka of the rhythmic cycle (tala) 
  • A small semi improvised prelude (alap) 
  • Composition set to the tala 
  • With variations and prepared (or fixed) improvisations. 
  • After singing/playing you have to explain which other ragas and talas you are able to sing/play or are familiar with. 


You will be accompanied by a Tabla and Tanpura player provided by Codarts, or you can bring your accompanying musicians. You must inform Codarts before hand which option you choose. 

 

Melody Instruments (Bansuri, Sitar, Sarod and non traditional instruments) 

  • Prepare a Raga and a Tala of your own choice to present in the following way: 
  • Scale of the raga and theka of the rhythmic cycle (tala) 
  • A small semi improvised prelude (alap) 
  • Composition set to the tala 
  • With variations and prepared (or fixed) improvisations. 
  • After singing/playing you have to explain which other ragas and talas you are able to sing/play or are familiar with. 

 

You will be accompanied by a Tabla and Tanpura player provided by Codarts, or you can bring your accompanying musicians. You must inform Codarts before hand which option you choose. 
 

Tabla 

  • Prepare a Tala of your own choice in this type of presentation: 
  • play the tala in three different tempo (vilambit, madhya and drut laya) 
  • a small solo containing basic kaidas, relas and tukras 
  • recite/sing the tukras first and then play 
  • after playing you have to explain which other talas you are able to play or are familiar with 

 

You can bring your own lehra player or accompanying musicians.
