Admission requirements Classical Music violin master

Entrance exam repertoire:

1) Two contrasting studies, one of which should be a Paganini caprice

2) A baroque piece or movement of your choice (e.g. Bach, Biber, Telemann, Händel)

3) Two movements of a classical sonata (e.g. Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven) OR the first movement with cadenza of a Mozart violin concerto (KV 218 or 219)

4) First movement with cadenza (if applicable) of a grand violin concerto (e.g. Sibelius, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Shostakovich, Bartók, Berg, Stravinsky, Prokofiev) OR two movements of a big sonata (e.g. Strauss, Franck, Ravel, Respighi, Fauré, Prokofiev, Brahms, Schumann)

5) Free space: a piece of your own choice reflecting a specific aspect of your artistic profile (e.g. your own composition or arrangement, other styles than classical, a contemporary piece or a performance piece)
 

  • Your program for the entrance exam must contain at least one concerto and one sonata
  • Playing at least two elements of the audition repertoire by memory is mandatory
  • Playing more repertoire by memory is appreciated (duo-sonata with piano or other instrument excepted)
  • Please leave out any possible repeats



Pre-selection (video recording)
Make a video recording of your playing (min 15 minutes - max 20 minutes) including movements or excerpts from each of the five categories of the abovementioned repertoire list.

Live entrance exam
All the abovementioned pieces need to be prepared in its entirety. The jury will make a selection during the live entrance exam.

Please bring a program with you as well as general scores of any pieces that are not considered mainstream repertoire.
