Audition Procedure

In order to be admitted to Codarts you have to take an entry examination, which consists of two parts: a theoretical and a practical part. Under the heading ‘Entry Requirements’ you will find the specific requirements for the various instruments.

Step 1: Prepare an online portfolio (preselection)

Codarts Jazz, Pop & World Music make a preselection based on a submitted link to audio and video material of a maximum of three songs. Preference: played with a combo/band. You can send us the link to a YouTube channel*, a SoundCloud channel*, a Facebook page or a website** via Studielink.

*When using a YouTube or SoundCloud channel, then please upload your links onto Google Drive, together with your motivation letter, biography, and musical resume. Make a map with all the asked documents and links that revere to your channel and send that link. Make sure that the link is set to ‘public’.

**If you want to make website we advise you to make a free website: use www.weebly.com, of www.wix.com.

The content of the auditions reflects the demands that the study programme and later professional practice will make upon students. The auditions are held by a committee comprised of teachers of the department you audition for.

PLEASE NOTE! We do not accept CDs or DVDs, nor MP3s via email. Always make sure that your Facebook page is set to ‘public’.

PLEASE NOTE! Applicants for Jazz Composition can skip ‘’Step 1” and start directly with “Step 2”.

Step 2: register via Studielink (click here)

Step 3: invitation for the audition

The invitation to take the entry examination at Codarts depends on an assessment of your digital portfolio. If favourable, you will receive an email with the invitation and additional information from our student administration centre ASC. The dates of the auditions will be announced in due course on this page.

Step 4: the audition

At the audition we will test your talent, knowledge, skills and development possibilities for the study programme you intend to follow. The audition consists of a music- theoretical part and a practical part. In the practical part we will test musical hearing, sense of rhythm, improvisation ability, affinity with the music of the main subject, talent development possibilities, and motivation. At the audition you will be required to play for the committee, either with your own band or accompaniment or with a tape. Prepare at most three pieces from which the teachers can choose. Do indicate which one you absolutely wish to perform! The audition will take about 30 minutes. You will be tested on your theoretical knowledge on the same day. Click here for a theory test.

Step 5: results of the audition

On the basis of the audition, the study programme’s management will decide whether you will be admitted. You will be personally notified of their decision via email, within two weeks after the audition.
