Saxophone player Benjamin Herman, one of the most original and productive jazz musicians in the Netherlands, will be guest teaching once a week at Codarts, starting 1 September 2018.
Benjamin Herman (London, 1968) got his first saxophone when he was 12 and one year later he was already playing the professional club circuit. He has played gigs with various groups all over the world, in addition to his own projects. As a session musician he played on more than a hundred albums by a great variety of artists, ranging from Candy Dulfer to Misha Mengelberg. In the 1990s, he became famous with the trailblazing New Cool Collective, which he founded. In both the Netherlands and abroad he also made a reputation for himself as a composer. This year, Benjamin Herman celebrates his 50th birthday with the release of three new solo albums.
Codarts is a Rotterdam-based international university providing high-level professional arts education in music, dance and circus arts. The university has about 1,000 students of 65 nationalities, and around 340 staff members. Its Jazz Department is internationally renowned. Recent alumni include saxophone players Bart Wirz and Jasper van Damme.
