The Rotterdam Conservatoire prides itself on its top quality and broad range of study courses: Music theatre, Pop, Jazz, Composition/arranging, Music production, Argentinean tango, Indian music, Flamenco, Latin/Latin jazz/ Brazilian, Turkish music, Classical music and Music in Education.
At the conservatoire you will be introduced to highly motivated and devoted teachers who enjoy international recognition in their particular field; you will quickly discover all kinds of different music styles as well as meeting students from all over the world.
History
The Rotterdam Conservatoire has a long history reaching back to 1930. It has grown to become one of the largest conservatoires in The Netherlands with approximately 750 students enrolled in vocational study programmes and 175 pupils taking preliminary courses.
The conservatoire has an excellent reputation both nationally and abroad. It owes its good name to the high quality education it offers in a wide variety of study courses, all tailored to the demands of international professional practice. It allows students to acquaint themselves with diverse styles of music in an international environment with young aspirant musicians from every continent and teachers of worldwide stature.
Collaboration
The Rotterdam Conservatoire works together with a number of leading foreign institutes.
Annually, some one hundred young, enthusiastic professionals graduate from the conservatoire, all excellently equipped for a future career in their vocational field. Graduates from the conservatoire swarm out across the entire world. They find their way in orchestras, ensembles and bands or become independent musicians (professional business people) and/or teachers.
The Rotterdam Conservatoire, together with the Rotterdam Dancy Academy and the bachelor study programme Rotterdam Circus Arts, is part of Codarts, University for the Arts. A large number of the study programmes given by the conservatoire are based at Kruisplein 26 in Rotterdam, close to Rotterdam’s Central Station. The Havo voor Muziek en Dans, one of the preparatory courses for the Rotterdam Conservatoire and the Rotterdam Dance Academy, is also situated in the same building.
In addition to the Kruisplein premises, the conservatoire also has several other locations in Rotterdam. The Rotterdam Pop Academy and the Rotterdam World Music Academy have their headquarters in the World Music & Dance Centre (WMDC), located in the municipality of Delfshaven.
Study programmes
The Rotterdam Conservatoire offers a bachelor of Music study programme in the following disciplines: Music Theatre, Pop, Jazz, Composition/arranging, Music Production, Argentinean tango, Indian music, Flamenco, Latin/Latin jazz/Brazilian, Turkish music and Classical music.
The Music study programme prepares you for a professional career as musician. On completing your study you will be awarded the title Bachelor of Music.
You can also study to become a music teacher at the Rotterdam Conservatoire. On graduating you receive the title Bachelor of Music in Education. During the study programme, in addition to basic musical practice, you will learn how to teach various target groups in different styles and techniques in the educational field and outside school.
Furthermore, the Rotterdam Conservatoire offers a Master programme in Music. In preparation for the professional study programmes there are several forms of preliminary professional music education for pupils from the age of 10 upwards. Moreover, shortened study programmes can be arranged on a contract basis.
