preparatory courses - general information

If you plan to pursue a career in music or dance, you must start at an early age. As a young dancer in Rotterdam, there are numerous ways in which you can prepare yourself for a Bachelor in Dance Programme.

In addition to the broad supply of good dance schools, Codarts offers preparatory courses that give young dance talent the opportunity to develop themselves professionally at an early stage: the Juniorenklas, the A-klas, the Schakelklas and the Havo/vwo voor Muziek en Dans. A specially appointed preparatory course coordinator is occupied on a full-time basis with coaching, supervision and policy implementation.

For every preparatory course an audition is held: a dance lesson in which dance capacity and skill are assessed. You will be judged according to your physical suitability, movement in relation to music, natural movement coordination, feeling for space, presentation, ability to take in what you are taught and motivation. Age will be taken into consideration. A basis for the evaluation is that the duration of the preparatory course should ensure the development of sufficient skills, allowing the student to progress to the Havo/vwo voor Muziek en Dans or a bachelor programme at Codarts.

You need to understand, speak and read Dutch to be admitted to a preparatory course of Codarts.
