admission

To be admitted to the Bachelor of Music in Education programme, you will need to have a diploma in secondary education (at least havo) and need to be able to write, speak and read Dutch fluently.

At the audition for the Bachelor of Music in Education programme, the following will be tested:
* suitability for the study (music theory and practical music skills)
* suitability for the profession (motivation, career suitability and practical musical skills)

The audition consists of two parts:
* a music theory part, prescribed and evaluated by a panel of teachers of music theory subjects.
In the music theory part of the entrance audition your knowledge and skills in music theory are tested. This includes: pitch discernment, melodic understanding, feeling for harmony, metric/rhythmic feeling, musical memory, creative ability and knowledge. An indication of the specific requirements for this part is given elsewhere in this section.
* a practical music part, prescribed and evaluated by a teacher of the primary instrument, a voice teacher and a main subject teacher.
Your practical musical skills are tested in the practical music part. The panel assumes that you will choose one instrument as your primary instrument. In general, this is the instrument on which you have already had lessons for some time and with which your musicality is best expressed. This may be a harmony instrument, a melody instrument, a percussion instrument, drums or voice. If you play several instruments, you are recommended to demonstrate your playing on each of them.

Requirements for primary instrument
* play a programme which you have put together yourself;
* sight-read a composition given to you by the panel;
* if possible, play a composition or improvisation of your own in a style of your choice;
* for harmony instruments: harmonize a given melody, and play a chord sequence or accompany a song;
* if voice is chosen as the primary instrument: sing a song in Dutch, a song from a musical and three pieces of the candidate's own choice, as varied as possible.
An indication of specific requirements for the primary instrument can be downloaded here.

Requirements for voice (all candidates)

* For all students, voice is a compulsory second subject in the course. During the entrance audition the panel will initially determine the type of voice, potential for development and level. You will be asked to sing five pieces of your own choice, with or without accompaniment (for example pop song, song from a musical, song from the classical repertoire, light music, standard, choral piece etc.)
* On the basis of the panels' evaluation in the music theory and practical parts, it will be decided if you are admissable.
