Codarts, University for the Arts – a small-scale professional university which offers high-quality arts education – wants to impart the arts as a profession to young people with talent, so that they can realize their personalities. The education at Codarts is provided by the Rotterdam Conservatoire (music), the Rotterdam Dance Academy (music) and Rotterdam Circus Arts (circus). Codarts has about 1,100 students, with 60 nationalities, and around 300 staff members.

Music
For many years the Rotterdam Conservatoire has had a high reputation both at home and abroad. Its good name can be attributed to the top quality which it offers in a broad range of areas of study. The Rotterdam Conservatoire consists of five academies; the Rotterdam Classical Music Academy, the Rotterdam Jazz Academy, the Rotterdam Pop Academy, the Rotterdam World Music Academy and the Muziektheateracademie. As a student here you come into contact with almost all the possible music styles and with fellow-students from dozens of countries in all the continents, but in the first instance with strongly motivated and dedicated top teachers, who enjoy international name and fame in their professional field.

Dance
The Rotterdam Dance Academy (RDA) is one of the most prominent professional training institutes for contemporary dance in Europe. Students come from all over the world to study at RDA. Here you can rely on an up to date and individually oriented preparation for a professional career as a dancer, choreographer or dance teacher. By laying the emphasis on ex-cellence, RDA strives to produce highly-qualified dance artists who can set to work in the international dance field.

Circus
Creative, physically attuned, independent, enterprising students, with a passion for circus and who aspire a career in the circus world, feel at home at Rotterdam Circus Arts (RCA), the bachelor’s course which started in September 2006. Here you learn to use the knowl-edge of your craft and your skills to develop circus acts of high artistic quality. After your study you can get to work in different sectors, such as cirque nouveau, variety theatre, the entertainment industry, local or street theatre and the traditional circus.

Research and development
In the interest of the further professionalization of the college and its institutes, Codarts pays a lot of attention to research and development.

Facilities

All courses at Codarts University for Professional Arts Education are professionally equipped to meet all educational demands. There is a music auditorium, a theatre room, an ensemble room, a recording studio, ten dance studios, a wardrobe room, a sewing workshop, a media library with over 15.000 copies of sheet music, 40 practice teaching rooms, 16 study cells, 74 pianos and grand pianos, 16 drum kits, 60 audio sets and 150 music stands.
